How billing and plans work

Why billing belongs to the household, how bank-connection limits work, and why downgrades wait until the end of your billing period.

Billing belongs to the household

A subscription is tied to your household as a whole, not to any one member’s login. If you’re not in a household yet, you’re on the free plan by default — see Pricing for what each plan includes.

Bank connection limits

The only thing that scales with plan is how many bank connections a household can have linked at once; everything else — budgets, goals, debts, recurring bills, manual accounts and transactions, sharing with your household, CSV import and export — works the same on every plan. A limit applies to the household’s combined connections, not a per-member allowance, and it’s checked before you’re even sent into Plaid to link a new one, so you’re never left partway through a connection you can’t keep.

Upgrading

Upgrading takes you through a standard checkout flow and takes effect right away.

Downgrading

A downgrade is scheduled for the end of your current billing period rather than applied immediately — so if a plan change would put you over a new, lower connection limit, you’re never forced to disconnect a bank mid-cycle to make room. Because of that grace period, downgrades are handled through the app’s own billing screen rather than the self-service billing portal, which would otherwise apply a downgrade the moment you confirm it.
